ATC Seeks Lead Coach for Training Program

The Atlanta Track Club is currently seeking a lead coach to oversee the Atlanta Marathon Training Program that begins on Saturday, May 28 at Emory University- Briarcliff Campus. A kick-off breakfast will be held on May 21, providing participants an opportunity to meet the coaches. The lead coach must have marathon training and running experience, along with some form of coaching; knowledge can include implementing and organizing running groups. It is not a requirement to be a RRCA certified coach, but would be helpful. Strong leadership and people skills are a MUST.

Below are the job duties of the lead coach:

  • Assume leadership of marathon trainees throughout the 22-week program.
  • Work closely with assistant coaches/mentors and delegate tasks when appropriate.
  • Work with the ATC in recruiting assistant coaches for Atlanta Marathon Training Program.
  • Coordinate four educational seminars (specifically tailored for marathon training groups) after the training runs within the first two months of Atlanta Marathon Training Program.

Guidelines for Lead Coach

  • Minimum age is 25.
  • Must be an active Atlanta Track Club (ATC) member.
  • Attend every Saturday training session (ATC race days excluded).
  • Must be running a minimum mileage of 20 miles per week.
  • Oversee set-up of training run fluid stations.
  • Oversee 8-10 assistant coaches.
  • Work with assistant coaches to develop weekly training routes.
  • Keep and update participant roster.
  • Work with ATC on all communications to participants.
  • Serve as liaison between training site and ATC.
  • Include Pace Team runs where applicable, i.e. course run.
  • Lead coach will receive: Stipend, coach’s running hat, Crew Chief VIP appreciation shirt, comp entry into the Atlanta Marathon, performance shirt and complementary ATC 2012 membership.
