Course- FAQ's

Is water available on the course?
Yes, water and POWERade stations are located approximately every mile and a half along the Atlanta Marathon course.  In addition to the fluid stations,  ACCEL GEL stations will be located near miles eight and 20.

Is there a course time limit?
The Atlanta Marathon has a six and a half hour time limit (approximately 14:53 mile pace), and the course will reopen to traffic once the marathoners doing a six and half hour pace have passed.

Is the course closed to traffic?
No, runner’s lanes will be separated from traffic lanes by cones—please stay inside the cones at all times.  To ensure your safety, volunteers and police officers will monitor the course.

What if I need to quit partway through the race?

If you feel that you will be unable to complete the marathon and need to drop out, move to the right side of the road and look for a course volunteer for assistance contacting the nearest “sag wagon”. A “sag wagon” will also sweep the course as the course reopens to traffic.

Are there any items that aren't allowed on the course?
For the safety of all Atlanta Marathon participants, no pets or wheeled conveyances including bikes, strollers, baby joggers or in-line skates are permitted on the course. As it’s not a closed course, and so you can hear directions given by race officials, please do not wear headphones during the race.
